Our Favorite Bags and Shoes in Shades of Pantone’s Radiant Orchid

Pantone Radiant Orchid
Radiant Orchid is Pantone’s Color of the Year, but that doesn’t mean that there’s just one color to wear. Just like any other color, there are subtle nuances and different hues that come with it (last year’s shade, Emerald, was a deep jewel tone and a metallic, for example). We’ve already showed you how you can add a dash of 2014’s color to your makeup, but now it’s time for your bags and shoes to get the Radiant Orchid treatment, too. From high end designers to but-it-now bargains, we’ve found our favorite orchid-hued bags and shoes that’ll showcase your color-savvy ways.
Marc by Marc Jacobs Metallic leather wedge sandals
Buy these now and save them for next year, because something tells us that waiting until sandal weather will leave slim pickings in the orchid-colored sandal department. Marc by Marc Jacobs Metallic leather wedge sandals ($300) is the perfect shoe for when the weather warms up (it’ll happen eventually, trust us!). With just a bit of height and enough flash to catch the eye, it’s a no-brainer for skinny jeans, sun dresses and wear-to-work skirts. The announcement of Radiant Orchid as Color of the Year had us fearing for pieces that screamed bridesmaid, but by making it more of a metallic than a pastel, these sandals are anything but bridal.

Coach Madison Leather North/South Satchel
See that orchid above that Pantone’s made the year’s mascot? It’s not all one color. The Coach Madison Leather North/South Satchel ($458) pulls from the center of the orchid for a brighter, more vibrant take on Radiant Orchid. This satchel marks a turn for Coach, taking it from the logo-covered canvas bags of the ’00s and into the brand’s new direction under the creative direction of Stuart Vevers. Gone are the logos and heavy branding and instead, Coach has brought its most recognizable signatures to the forefront, such as the turnlock closure and the golden lozenge tag hanging from the handle. As you’d expect, the brand’s soft, durable leather and reputation for having excellent craftsmanship remain unchanged. Wear this now and through the spring, because something this great won’t be hiding in your closet for long.
Available at Bloomingdale’s.
Enzo Angiolini Graysn Pump
What if Radiant Orchid was more radioactive orchid? We’d expect a neon take on the CotY to be something akin to the Enzo Angiolini Graysn Pump ($109.95).
The shoe takes a classic shape and injects it with a major dose of cool thanks to its bright, in-your-face, saturated version of orchid. Add a touch of gold for an unexpected detail and you’ve got a shoe that’s ready for a night out. Designers such as Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa and Louis Vuitton’s Marc Jacobs showed shorter, more sensible kitten heels (though some designers, such as Brian Atwood and Charlotte Olympia still buck trends and reach for the sky), so expect to see the Michelle Obama-apporoved heel height coming back strong for 2014.
3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli medium leather trapeze bag
If you want something you can wear now, something a little moodier but still fresh, we’d opt for the 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli medium leather trapeze bag ($950). The Pashli is already a favorite among cool, downtown girls, but even the most connected fashion femme doesn’t have this latest color-blocked version just yet. Lim’s newest release takes a deep oxblood and combines it with a more vibrant orchid-hued body, softening the look of the bag and making it something you can carry year-round. Just like every Pashli, it’s got Lim’s signature zippers and a longer strap so you can change up your purse game and wear this baby as a cross-body. Let everyone else scour eBay for that Target collab and opt for the real thing.
Available at Net-a-Porter.
Saint Laurent Paris Micro Stud Pump
Pulling from the color of Radiant Orchid’s unopened buds, we found the Saint Laurent Paris Micro Stud Pump ($1,095). It might look like your run-of-the-mill pump, but the Paris has become a cult-fave among fashion editors thanks to its sexy low sides and slightly longer vamp. It’s all in the details, so you’ll have to try it on to really see just how flattering this shoe can be. It’s also got Slimane’s signature rock ‘n roll detailing thanks to an allover stud treatment, making this anything but your ordinary pump for the ladies who lunch set. Leave it to Hedi to find the perfect balance of ladylike polish and anarchic punk.
