Launch We Love: Rachel Roy Teams with Lauren Bush for FEED India
Charitable label FEED has teamed up with Clarins, DKNY and more in the past, but no matter the partner, the message is always the same: Buy a FEED item and you not only get an accessory, you’re helping give food to people in need. In her latest project, FEED founder Lauren Bush Lauren teamed with fashion designer Rachel Roy for the FEED 100 India tote, which provides 100 school meals to children in India.
Roy, who is half Indian, traveled to India to work with local artisans on the bag’s print and tassels. Available in two different prints, the FEED 100 India tote is a collaboration between Lauren Bush Lauren’s FEED charity and Roy’s own Kindness is Always Fashionable initiative, which works to combine fashion and charity with various projects (including the designer’s last project with Deepak Chopra). In addition to providing school children with food, the FEED 100 India tote provides Indian families with stable jobs and daily necessities that are often hard to come by in impoverished parts of India.
The paisley-meets-heart print bags feature an interior zip pocket emblazoned with Rachel’s quote, “Kindness is always fashionable,” hand-tied tassels and traditional block-printed fabric.
Roy insisted that the artistans responsible for manufacturing the bags be given health insurance, fair wages and more, which means that the entire project will be affecting upwards of 200,000 people in addition to the school meals that the bags will provide.
Now that’s food for the soul.
The Rachel Roy x FEED India Bags retail for $78 each and are available at www.rachelroy.com and www.feedprojects.com as well as retailers such as Bloomingdale’s, Bergdorf Goodman, Lord & Taylor and more.
