Diane Kruger: Yes, She Cannes
The verdict is in! Diane Kruger, who is sitting on the jury this year at the Cannes International Film Festival (alongside Ewan MacGregor and French fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier) officially gets Fashion Trends Daily’s vote for Best Dressed Star walking the red carpet.
At the arrivals she stunned in a diaphanous mint Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown and at subsequent events, she’s pulled out the best from fashion’s biggest names. With its sheer panels, long cape and Grecian silhouette, the gowb was on trend and feminine without being over the top. Known for not enlisting the help of a stylist, Kruger nary makes a style misstep, whether it’s the Met Gala or a movie premiere.
After her dramatic arrival, Kruger’s been seen sporting a string of outfits pulled straight from the runways. Continuing with pastels, she paired an icy blue Balmain blouse with a skirt plucked right from the brand’s recent resort collection.
The tough leather skirt and gladiator heels are miles away from the gauzy confection of her Valli gown, but she kept the look feminine with three-quarter length sleeves and a chunky embellished belt.
While at the festival, Kruger’s on a tight schedule, watching two films a day with her fellow judges. It leaves her little time to celebrate — though she did attend an event in her honor, hosted by Calvin Klein’s Euphoria fragrance. But she’s certainly putting a lot of thought into her dresses.
We give her a “Standing O” for her overall style, but not every one has been an immediate love affair for us. We had to learn to love one of them. When she stepped out for a photocall wearing a super-sexy Versus cocktail dress (Donatella Versace’s lower-priced line, designed by her prot©g© Christopher Kane), we scratched our heads a bit. It seemed a touch cheerleader and a whole lotta bondage. But as we caught glimpses of it from different angles, we grew fonder when we saw how well it suited her figure and created curves. It still has a super-feminine silhouette and the crisscross ties that have become a Versus house signature. And in a crowd that included Lana del Ray, Jane Fonda, Eva Longoria and Jessica Chastain, she makes standing out look effortless.
