Online Retailer Yoox Debuts World Cup Inspired Sweatshirts
The world cup is a showcase for the best soccer (ahem, football) players in the world to strut their stuff, but it’s also an opportunity for each country’s athletes and spectators to flex their fashion muscle. Online retailer Yoox, which specializes in one-of-a-kind and hard-to-find merchandise from some of the fashion world’s biggest names, has teamed with Sepp, a sports magazine, and a roster of international designers for a collection of sweatshirts celebrating the countries of the world cup.
The collaboration includes designers from all of the continents that will be participating in the FIFA World Cup this summer (we presume that there isn’t an all-penguin team representing Antarctica), and instead of recruiting big names and fashion heavy hitters, Yoox kept to its MO and found great emerging designers and cult favorite labels for the project. With 10 unisex designs in total, you’ve got choices when it comes to showing off your team spirit.
Ive been working with Yoox for many years, and what I enjoy the most is how they mix fashion, culture and current affairs,” said Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, the Spanish designer that created a look to represent her home country.
Other designers include Opening Ceremony’s Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, who represent North and South America as well as the Caribbean, Germany’s Damir Doma, understaded Ami from France, Brazilian designer Barbara Casasola for South America and MSGM for Italy. Asia’s teams will be included via designs from Juun.J of Korea and Masha Ma of China and Duro Ulowu from Nigera will be representing Africa. Each designer took inspiration from different aspects of the tournament and their respective countries, choosing to integrate flags, mascots and more.
The sweaters will be available for purchase at www.yoox.com.
