Michelle’s Musts: Tom Ford Lipstick, Jason Wu Candle, Jonathan Adler for Lacoste

My knees go weak for sexy packaging. And also for Tom Ford, both the man and his clothes (apologies to my husband). So, naturally, the next closest thing to heaven is slicking my new Tom Ford lipstick in a pout-perfect red stain onto my lips–courtesy of FTD’s amazing Senior Writer, C. Luu. When he handed it to me, I was so besotted that I thought I might possibly need a moment alone with my new lipstick.

There it was in all its glam glory, a sleek, white little vessel of beauty trimmed in gold–an instant modern classic, made even more breathtaking when the red hue emerged triumphantly from its silo. If I were one of the socialite fixtures pictured in Slim Aarons’ iconic 1960s Palm Springs photos, I would hold it casually in one one hand, gin and tonic in the other while I chatted poolside in my mod mid-Century Bertoia chair.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need a moment to myself…

Jason Wu’s flame just keeps getting hotter €” literally. The designer with the hotly anticipated Target launch has just announced his candle collaboration with Laura Slatkin of Nest candles.

The $48 candle, in a scent called Orchid Rain, is set to launch in April in luxury department stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus.

I’m not sure which I’m more excited about: Wu for Target of Wu for Nest. I am told that I have a candle addiction (incidentally, by my dear friend who is in need of a pillow intervention), and Nest candles happens to be one my primary enablers. I give the limited-edition holiday scent to friends–and myself–every Christmas and it never fails to inspire squeals of delight.

My favorite purveyor of Happy Chic decorating and the iconic symbol of perfect prepdom unite for a collaboration of polo-style shirts and accessories, which include everything from tennis racquet covers to needlepoint pillows and cheeky Lacoste alligator pottery.

I plan on wearing this baby to my yearly pilgrimage to Palm Springs for the BNP Paribas tennis open at Indian Wells. And, of course, a stay at the Adler-decorated Parker Palm Springs hotel is de rigueur!  Fashion score for this collab: LOVE-LOVE!!

Save Steal Splurge: the Chelsea Boot

The Brits have a lot of fashion cred. The trench, the punk movement, Vivienne Westwood’s irreverent style, Kate Middleton’s polished perfection €” all fashion roads might lead to London. But one thing that’s definitely a Brit go-to is the chelsea boot. Easy to wear (slide in and out!), sleek and polished, it’s a shoe that looks equally at home with dresses and tights now that it’s fall (really!) and with jeans and jumpsuits alike. Consider it fall’s most versatile boot, because if the U.K.’s It Girls wear them in the constant London drizzle, you know they’ll serve you well on your morning latte run.
