Mad Men Teams with Birchbox and Birchbox Man

Christina Hendricks as Joan Holloway

The end is near. Yes, Mad Men‘s final set of episodes is set to air beginning April 5, so we’re all about to see Joan powdering her nose and Betty’s perfect eyeliner for the last time. But before the series finale, AMC and Mad Men are teaming up with Birchbox and Birchbox Man to bring fans one more way to channel the era. For April, Birchbox and Birchbox Man will be offering up a limited edition Mad Men-inspired box that includes picks that’ll help guys and girls alike get the perfect midcentury look.

“Birchbox turned the beauty category on its head and engaged a generation making them an ideal partner for AMC as we head into the final seven episodes of ‘Mad Men,’” Theresa Beyer, senior vice president of promotion, activation and partnership at AMC, told WWD.

Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner worked with Birchbox CEOs Katia Beauchamp and Hayley Barna to select the items in each box.

Birchbox Man will be offering up its special box for $20 while the women’s box will be priced at $10. Both are set to contain beauty and grooming samples in addition to full-sized products that recreate Mad Men‘s iconic look and style. The limited edition boxes are set to include items such as liquid eye liner perfect for cat eyes, lip pencils and hairspray to hold beehive ‘dos in place for the laides. The men’s selection will include hair cream and other lifestyle accessories.

“We curated a selection of products that captures the flavor of that era while maintaining a modern sensibility – for example, a bold lip in an easy to use pencil and a soft hold paste for a relaxed take on the men’s hairstyles,” Beauchamp added. “Our hope is that this collaboration helps celebrate [the show].”

Monday Muse: Clover Canyon’s Homegrown Highland Fling

Clover Canyon Fall 2014

When it comes to perfectly placed prints and digital design, few labels have the sartorial savvy of L.A.’s Clover Canyon. Designer Rozae Nichols has created a niche for her brand, which specializes in lust-worthy pieces that integrate photorealistic prints, classic shapes and bright, bold color that’s perfect for off-duty A-listers, Hollywood’s PYTs and the flashbulb set. For Fall 2014, Nichols brought the brand back to its roots, drawing from the culture of her great-grandmother’s roots in Ireland.

Looking at Clover Canyon’s over-the-top patterns in the context of technicolor tartans and clashing plaids makes us wonder why it took three seasons for Nichols to draw from the bank of imagery and iconography of Ireland. Touchstones for the collection included Oscar Wilde, stained glass windows and the Book of Kells in addition to fantasy staples such as unicorns and fairies (we didn’t spot any leprechauns, but we hear they’re wily creatures). In the past, customers have come to Nichol’s Clover Canyon for standout frocks and special occasion dresses, but as the brand has grown, Nichols has added tailored pieces and work-appropriate basics that are injected with her signature prints, elevating the mundane to magical.

Clover Canyon Fall 2014

The Fall 2014 collection included library prints, tartans superimposed with floral flourishes and mixed media skirts that blended wool and lace.

Trompe-l’oeil dresses blended draped curtains with fields of wildflowers  and rainbows, creating a fantasy of just-after-the-rain wonderlands. Heraldic symbols, coats of arms and ribbons that recalled equestrian motifs also decorated tops and cocktail dresses and long lean striped worked their way down tunics and pants. No matter the print, however, Nichols showcased her ability to carve curves and accentuate the body with perfectly pieces colors and pattern, giving her loyal customer base more reason to join in on this highland hike. And while we love this retooling of the classic references of her family, we can’t wait to see just what Nichols has up her print perfect sleeve when she lands back home in California.
