Barbie Takes Ken Back On Valentine’s Day
Oh happy, happy Valentines Day! Its official: Ken and Barbie are back on after a seven-year hiatus and Barbies romp with a surfer named Blaine. While its a wipeout for Blaine, it was quite a victory for Ken, who has been pulling out all the stops in recent weeks leading up to Fashion Week and Valentines Day with custom cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery, billboards, magazine ads and plenty of texting for the publics support in helping to woo his gal.
Today Ken tweeted:
Happy Valentines Day everbody! Lucky for me, it seems Cupids arrow has struck @Barbiestyle¦were back together!
Note to guys: See, all this wooing really does work!
There were Kens aplenty last night at Christies auction house for the Menswear Meets Art exhibit.
Swooning female party goers posed throughout the event with various iterations of live Ken models dressed by CFDA designers Yigal Azrouel, Billy Reid, Robert Geller, Nicholas K, Michael Bastian and Simon Spurr. Each model was paired against pieces curated from Christies first open post war and contemporary art sale.
Fittingly, Beach Date Ken dressed (well, more like draped) by Yigal Azrouel in denim shorts and a linen short-sleeve, double-breasted knit cardi stood in front of an April Gornik oil on canvas, titled The Wave. The painting is priced between $12-18,000.
DJ Paul Sevigny (yes, brother of Oscar-nominated actress Chloe) deftly DJd for the event, looking ironically smart in his navy suit and tie the Connecticut natives wink to a former life as a commodities trader and money manager.
The parting gift: Magnolia Bakerys Barbie cupcakes. We happened to have had one before we left L.A., but took one for good measure last night to see if the NY version was just as good. Uh, that would be a yes.
