Sofia Vergara Says Acting Is Best Vehicle for Starting Clothing Line

Known for her sultry look and her dangerous-curves-ahead figure, Sofia Vergara isn’t just the highest-paid actress on television, she’s also a huge fan of fashion who makes no secret of why she got into acting.

€œTruthfully, I always thought of acting as a way to get a clothing line, and as an experiment,€ Vergara said in her interview in Lucky magazine’s November issue (available on newsstands tomorrow, Oct 9).  In it she dishes on her fashion aspirations, her famous figure, and why she’ll be the first person to board Roberto Cavalli’s famed yacht if she’s ever given the chance.

€œI looovve luxury. I love yachts. I love planes. I love trips,” Vergara said. “I can live without all of them, and I have, but I am not going to apologize and pretend I don€™t love luxury, because I do.”

She’s walked the carpet wearing everyone from Vera Wang to Zuhair Murad, and on her sitcom, Modern Family, she’s often showing off her best assets in tight, body-hugging silhouettes and heels that defy all logic. (Sure, all the moms we know wear stilettos to Disneyland!) Yet despite a penchant for luxury, Vergara has a namesake clothing line at mass retailer Kmart.

€œI met all these women there who saw all the fun, colorful, comfortable stuff I was wearing and said, ‘Where did you get that, it is so cute,’€ Vergara said. €œAnd I knew I had access to the designers and I wanted to give the woman who is saving her grocery money for a cute outfit something good that she can afford.€

The Kmart collection offers everything from everyday wear to swim and lingerie, shoes, jewelry and handbags.

She has even expanded her label to include home goods, luggage and more, making her the 2012 bombshell version of Martha Stewart or Kathy Ireland, who both cashed in on their cachet through associations with Kmart.

And the retailer’s price point is perfect for her customer base, because while she’s in love with luxury and has access to it,

not everyone has private fittings with Vera Wang before they step out for the flashbulbs. Kmart allows Vergara to reach all of her Modern Family fans, no matter what their shopping habits may be — even though her character wouldn’t be caught dead there now.

As for her own penchant for luxury, Vergara loves her luxe labels, but she proudly mixes it with items from her own line for television appearances and publicity events. And in the age of high-low dressing, she’s a prime example of effortless mixing and matching. And she’s not afraid to show off her key assets.

€œI know [my breasts] have opened doors for me, let€™s be real,” Vergara said. “But I so hate when I see Gisele and she is wearing a tiny little tank top with no bra, like, €˜Oh, I just threw this on, I look so cute.€™ If I wore that I would look like I was pregnant, or a fat stripper.€
