Michael Kors and Halle Berry Team Up to Stop World Hunger

Michael Kors and Halle Berry

The world is about to get a supernova’s worth of star power with the announcement of Michael Kors and Halle Berry’s partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme. Together, they’re working to promote Watch Hunger Stop, an initiative created to shed light on the importance of nutrition during and after pregnancy for both women and children.

When Kors was asked why he chose to team with Berry, he cited that she was the embodiment of the quintessential Kors woman. A working mom (pregnant again, FYI) by day and a glamazon by night — with a few cosmetics spokeswoman duties and talk show appearances between — Berry makes it all look easy. So the designer and the actress paired up to work with the United Nations World Food Programme to bring their star wattage to heighten awareness for the difficulties women in impoverished nations face when pregnant. Berry noted that hunger and malnutrition can start in the womb. In fact, the first 1,000 days of a child’s life are so crucial for healthy development that damage caused from hunger can be irreparable.

Berry also teamed with Kors to become the face of Watch Hunger Stop, a special capsule collection of Kors’ beloved oversize watches.

Each style comes in a special commemorative box and features “100 Series” on the face, a nod to proceeds of the sale of each watch, which will provide 100 meals to the WFP. The back of each watch is also engraved with Kors’ signature and Watch Hunger Stop. The timepieces are available for pre-order now on Kors’ Web site for $295. To bring further awareness to the program, Berry and Kors will both be utilizing social media and a special Web site at, where they will both be contributing videos, blog posts and more. Berry will even make a visit to Africa, where she hopes to visit while still pregnant to spread information on the importance of prenatal health.

The watches are only the first project for the duo, who plan on continuing on with the Watch Hunger Stop campaign with more releases until they reach their goal of over 5 million people involved in the cause — each one brandishing a Kors’ signature timepiece.
