Macy’s Salutes America with “American Icons”
Apple pie, drive in theaters, dungarees and Route 66 — these symbols of America (and plenty more) are taking the spotlight at Macy’s this summer, where the American Icons series puts them center stage in a celebration of culture, fashion and food that will spread the spirit of red, white and blue from coast to coast.
Throughout the summer, Macy’s will be celebrating American style. In stores, special collections from iconic American designers such as Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Levi’s and more will be available in just about every department, including menswear, accessories, juniors, contemporary and more. Quintessentially American items such as distressed denim, leather boots and more will all be on display, pulling inspiration from American style coast-to-coast. Mix Tommy’s Nantucket nauticals with Denim & Supply’s Route 66-inspired collection for a look that’ll work anywhere from Seattle’s Sasquatch Festival to a New England clambake.
To celebrate the American road trip, Macy’s has enlisted Megan and Liz, Macys iHeartRadio Rising Star winners. The pair of pop singers will embark on a cross-country road trip beginning in California on May 14 — in a new Ford Mustang convertible — another American icon — and end their journey in New York to fªte the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks show.
For Father’s Day, Macy’s will be commemorating the great American pastime: baseball. From June 3-16, shoppers can win tickets to baseball games as they shop in-store, and if dad’s actually attending a game, Macy’s will be sponsoring game day giveaways at 10 Major League and 35 Minor League Baseball games across the country. And if dad’s more about grilling than grand slams, he’ll love the Sizzle Showdown. Atlanta will set the stage on June 8th for Macy’s grilling guru competition. The celeb chefs of Macy’s Culinary Council will judge, and the winner, will receive a $10,000 prize and a trip to New York for the fireworks show.
Macy’s will also be hosting events at drive-in theaters around the country, but for those of us not close to one of those vintage gems, Macy’s will be projecting movies at 20 of their locations, letting everyone get in on the American tradition. In addition to classic movies, the events will have old-time concessions, family activities and more.
With a summer’s worth of events, American Icons is the perfect way to satisfy your itch for true red, white and blue style. And with so many different events, everyone from foodies to fashion fanatics can join in on the fun.
