Our Favorite Off the Shoulder Tops Under $55

Showing some skin doesn’t mean you’re committing to deep Vs, strapless silhouettes or mini skirts and micro shorts. Designers are embracing the shoulder, whether its with cut-outs and cold shoulder shapes or, our personal favorite, the off the shoulder slouch.

It’s a little boho, a little flirty and perfect for summer. Best of all, it’s easy to find this warm weather trend in prices that won’t dip into your vacation fund. With wanderlust at an all-time high, that’s a very good thing.

Monday Muse: Anjelica Huston Inspires Proenza Schouler Pre-Fall

Anjelica Huston

There are few actresses that are as iconic as Anjelica Huston — you’ve seen her on the screen (big and small), you’ve seen her modeling pics from the ’70s and fun fact: you can see her when you’re at Disneyland co-starring with Michael Jackson by sitting in on a showing of Captain Eo. With awards, accolades and more under her belt, Huston also made an appearance at Proenza Schouler’s Pre-Fall presentation. Not in person, per se, but she was there in spirit as Jack and Laz showed a disco-tinged show that celebrated the shapes and textures that reigned supreme in Huston’s heyday.

Before she was an actress, Huston did work as a model and was photographed by famed photographers Richard Avedon (the snaps of a 17-year-old Huston went on to appear in Vogue) and Bob Richardson, with whom she became romantically involved with in the ’60s.

During the ’70s, she was often seen on the arm of designer Halston, who cited her as a muse for his daring designs. Huston, who was deemed a Halstonette, turned to acting and became the actress that we know today — the one that wins Academy Awards and still stars in movies and still has time to have fun with roles such as Morticia Addams. She’s still working the red carpet today, but no matter what she’s got on, she’ll always be remembered for those daring Halston dresses, her wide legged pants and her chubby furs.

Proenza Schouler Pre-Fall 2014

Proenza Schouler Pre-Fall 2014

For a few seasons now, Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez have relaxed their shapes and have moved away from the futuristic textile experimentation that they were enamored with in years past.

So when we spied wide legged gauchos and a collection that featured soft suede and supple leather in just about every look, it was like looking right at a Halstonette. A throwback collection it wasn’t, since the familiar shapes were given major updates thanks to proportion play (those gauchos were cropped and swingy suede dresses were updated with a fresh tea length). Gone are the days of flashy lam© fabrics and metallic weaves, because the designing duo’s latest showing begged to be touched, scrunched and worn 24 hours a day, not just for after dark activities. And those chubby, cozy furs that Huston favored? they came by way of wide shearling collars and sheared fur coats, all practically begging for a night out. Pre-Fall? We’ll take those coats to wear right now.
